Saint Lawrence O'Toole - Saint Cyril of Jerusalem Parish
Rev. Nicholas J. Glisson, B.A., M.A., M.Div., Ph.D. Born in Sarasota, Nicholas Glisson spent most of his childhood in North-Central Florida. Nicholas received bachelor and master of divinity degrees from the Seminary of Saint Vincent de Paul in Boynton Beach and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1979.
As a member of the Diocese of Saint Augustine he served in Jacksonville, in Gainesville as a campus minister at the University of Florida and was pastor of Holy Family Church in Williston. During this time he also received a master of arts in liturgics from the University of Notre Dame.
In 1997 Nicholas was awarded a doctorate from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. His studies focused on the relationship between worship and architecture. He wrote his dissertation on the English Gothic Revival architect, Augustus Pugin. Nicholas did extensive research in Britain and France as part of this project.
After a brief return to Florida, Nicholas was incardinated in the Diocese of Oakland, California where he currently is Pastor at Saint Lawrence O’Toole/ Saint Cyril of Jerusalem Church. In addition, he taught in the diocese’s deacon formation program and worked on the Sacred Art and Design committee for the construction of Oakland’s new Cathedral.
Nicholas enjoys several hobbies. He is an avid reader, classical music lover and paints in watercolors. A life-long fascination with railroads prompted interest in industrial history and model trains. Outdoor activities include hiking and motorcycling.
